Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Jays better than good in win over Goucher

TOWSON, Md. -- Madelyn Baker, Carly Thompson, and Kate Ziegler combined to score 14 of the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team's 18 goals in Friday's 18-4 win over Goucher. Baker and Thompson both had five while Ziegler scored four times for the Blue Jays. E-town moved to 2-0 in the Landmark Conference.

The Thompson twins put Elizabethtown (6-4, 2-0 Landmark) ahead 1-0 only 24 seconds into the game. It was Katie Thompson to Carly Thompson for the goal, her 21st of the season. Katie Thompson provided six assists, her second game this season with at least six helpers to move within one of tying and two of breaking the program's all-time career assists mark (109).

Goucher (0-10, 0-2 Landmark) tied it up 1-1 a little over a minute and a half later on Shannon Stull's 23rd goal of the year, unassisted. Two and a half minutes the game was tied until Katie and Carly Thompson connected for a second time in the same fashion to put E-town into the lead for good.

The Blue Jays scored the final 11 goals of the first half to take a commanding 13-1 lead at the break. Baker recorded all five of her goals in the first half, while Ziegler posted a hat trick, Carly Thompson scored twice more, and Katie Thompson got herself a goal as well. Baker ran her season total up to 35, third in the Landmark Conference and two behind the leader.

Elizabethtown only outscored Goucher 5-3 in the second half, but with the game well in hand, the Jays were able to back off the gas pedal while only allowing the Gophers a handful of goals. Olivia Beachley was able to score the first goal of her career in the second half with 18:38 left in the game to put EC up 16-2. Mirthe Berends scored a man-up five minutes later, her sixth of the season.

Abby Kopytko and Jennifer Beihoff split the goalie duties for E-town as each played one half. Kopytko got the win to move to 6-4 on the season with four saves. Beihoff made two saves in her 30 minutes of action. Landmark saves leader Bridget Den Boer made 10 saves for the Gophers in the loss.

Ziegler's three-assist and seven-point day (4g, 3a) were season highs for the freshman. Lexie Sharp had a game-high 11 draw controls.

Elizabethtown will have a week off before hosting Drew on Saturday, April 7, at Wolf Field for a 1 p.m. Landmark Conference matchup.
