Big second half carries Juniata over men's basketball

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elizabethtown again led a Landmark Conference contender into the second half Thursday evening at Thompson Gymnasium. Juniata unleashed an offensive barrage over the final 16 minutes, however, dropping the Blue Jays 75-48.

Michael Pastore got behind the Eagles' defense for a layup that put the Jays ahead 35-31 with 16:19 to go, before the conference's second-place team went wild.

Damon Rickens hit all four of his 3-pointers, leading scorer Marcus Lee had 15 points and Juniata shot 61 percent while outscoring E-town (4-17, 1-10 Landmark) 44-13 the rest of the way.

The Eagles (19-3, 8-3) scored on 12-of-13 possessions during an eight-minute stretch, expanding their lead from six with 11:08 remaining to 25, 73-48, with 2:41 left. Elizabethtown didn't have the same fortune, with a majority of its offensive trips being one-and-done.

Lee scored a game-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting as all five Eagle starters finished in double figures. Rickens and Manheim Township product Seth Brewer each had 13 points, while Brandon Martinazzi and Wil Peralta added 12 apiece.

Bryce Greene led the Blue Jays with 11 points, but the team's scoring leader at 18.7 points per game was saddled with two early fouls and only attempted five shots in 27 minutes.

Pastore had 10 points for the hosts, Matt Thomas had eight and Connor Moffatt provided seven and a game-high nine rebounds.

Elizabethtown's 48 points were its fewest in a game this season. The Blue and Gray were held to 19 field goals (19-of-45), just the second time this season they've made less than 20.

The Blue Jays play their final home game of the season Saturday at 2 p.m. against Goucher. Prior to the game, the team will honor seniors Matt Brickman and Will Jackson.
