Blue Jays superior on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Twelve different players found the scoresheet as Elizabethtown scored a season-high 92 points in a commanding 92-75 Senior Day victory over Goucher at Thompson Gymnasium on Saturday.

Matt Thomas scored a career-high 18 points, Brandon Berry had 15 and Connor Moffatt provided his first double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) in six games, leading the Blue Jays (5-17, 2-10 Landmark) to a season sweep of the winless Gophers.

Elizabethtown steadily pulled away as the first half progressed. A 10-0 run in the waning minutes of the period that included five points from Berry and a Michael Pastore 3-pointer pushed the Jays' lead to 18, 40-22. The Blue Jays maintained an 18-point cushion, 43-25, at the half.

Thomas made all five of his shots in the second half, Ethan DuBois and Will Jackson added seven points each and the Blue Jays shot 62.5 percent (15-of-24), while making 16 free throws to keep the Gophers (0-22, 0-12) down by double digits.

Jackson and classmate Matt Brickman drew their first career starts in their final home game as Blue Jays. Jackson scored all of his career-high seven points in the final 20 minutes, going 2-of-3 with a 3-pointer and 2-of-2 at the foul line. The Centre Hall native also collected three rebounds and an assist. Brickman had three points, four rebounds and an assist in 12 minutes.

With regular starters Thomas and Moffatt coming on as reserves in favor of their senior teammates and Berry's strong day (4-of-5 FG, 2-of-2 3FG, 5-of-6 FT), the Blue Jays' bench outscored Goucher's 56-17. Elizabethtown topped the 90-point barrier for the second time this season.

Despite trailing by 16 with less than three minutes to go, Goucher attempted to take advantage of Elizabethtown's league-low free throw shooting percentage, but the Jays made 12-of-18 in the final 2:30 to thwart that attempt.

Blue Jays' scoring leader Bryce Greene ended up with 12 points, his 10th consecutive game in double figures and 20th in 22 games this season. Greene also had four assists, DuBois had nine points and five assists and Pastore led all players with six helpers as the Jays recorded 22 assists on 33 buckets.

Elliott Wiley and Jacob Smith accounted for more than half of Goucher's points, with Wiley scoring a game-high 24 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Smith finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Gophers actually shot nearly nine percent better than their season average, going 27-of-69 (39.1%) from the floor, but once again struggled defensively by allowing 90 points or more for the eighth time this season.

Elizabethtown wraps up its 2017-18 season with a pair of road games next week. The Blue Jays face Catholic in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
