Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Thompson's, Baker pave way to first win for women's lacrosse

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Katie Thompson, Carly Thompson, and Madelyn Baker all had big games for the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team in Wednesday's 16-7 win over Hood. It was the Blue Jays first win of the season and it came in convincing fashion, led by the three upperclassmen.

Lexie Sharp started the scoring a few minutes into the non-conference affair. Sharp scored the first goal of her career on Carly Thompson's first of four assists in the game, which tied a single-game career high for the senior. Sharp had a pair of goals for Elizabethtown (1-1). Thompson found her sister Katie Thompson a little over a minute later to double the lead to 2-0.

Jade Locklear recorded the first two goals of the game for Hood (0-2). Locklear, one of the returning goal scorers for the Blazers, scored her third and fourth goals of the season six and a half minutes apart. Hood trailed 3-2 after the senior's two goals.

Kara Phoubandith tied the game at 3-3 with an unassisted tally. It was the only tie of the game. From there, the Blue Jays scored the final four goals of the first half. Emily Garvin registered the first of her career on a free position attempt. Katie Thompson set up Carly Thompson twice in a row for goals, her first two of the game. Sharp tallied her second with 41 seconds left in the half and E-town led 7-3 at the break.

All five of Baker's goals came in the second half. After a pair this past Saturday against No. 7 Franklin & Marshall, Baker went for a career-high five against the Blazers. Her first of the game was the opening goal of the second half, just over a minute and a half into play. Baker found Carly Thompson shortly thereafter to make it 9-3.

Two of Katie Thompson's game-high five assists in the second half came less than a minute apart. Thompson tied her career high with the five helpers.

Baker set up Jesse Sartor late in the game for the final goal of the contest, her first of the season.

Abby Kopytko made seven saves in goal for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown will host Marymount (Va.) on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 4:30 p.m.
