PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team never trailed Saturday, snapping a two-game slide with an 80-61 victory at Valley Forge in the first ever meeting between the programs.
Bryce Greene had 19 points to lead the Blue Jays, who shot 50.8% (31-of-61) on the afternoon. For the second straight game,
Britt Moore got balanced scoring from his squad, as four of the five starters finished in double figures.
Michael Pastore registered 12 points,
Connor Moffatt had 11 and
Ethan DuBois 10.
DuBois,
Matt Thomas and Greene each had a basket as E-town (4-4) scored seven unanswered points in the game's first 3:03.
Greene would go for 13 points in the first half and the Jays converted on 19-of-35 shots, including 7-of-12 from distance, to lead 45-29 at the break.
Moffatt hit a trey to start the second half and Greene added a pair of layups as an 8-0 spurt put the Blue and Gray in firm control with a 24-point advantage (53-29).
Ten players managed to find the scoresheet in the half and the Blue Jays never led by less than 17 following their first basket of the half.
Aaron Hill collected 14 of his team-high 19 points off the bench for Valley Forge (1-8) in the second, and fellow reserve Samuel Smith had all 10 of his points in the final 20 minutes. Together, the duo contributed all 29 of the Patriots' bench points. Cody Collins had 17 points and Sean Word 11 points and 13 rebounds for UVF.
Elizabethtown moved the ball well throughout. DuBois and Pastore totaled five dimes apiece as the Jays reached the 20-assist mark for the second time this season. The Blue Jays also owned a 33-27 rebounding edge, paced by Moffatt's six. DuBois and Greene each had five.
Josh Christ's eight points were tops among E-town's reserves.
Brandon Berry added seven and
Zach Nannen four.
Tyler Rinehimer scored his first two career points by finishing a feed from DuBois with 3:30 left.
The Blue Jays will take a break from game action to focus on fall finals before facing Marywood at Thompson Gymnasium on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m.
