ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Marywood erased a seven-point deficit in the final 4:42 of regulation and outscored Elizabethtown 17-11 in overtime to spoil the Blue Jays' last home game of the 2018 calendar year, 80-74, at Thompson Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
Bryce Greene and
Connor Moffatt each had 21 points to lead E-town, with the latter going for his second double-double of the season after pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds.
Greene's 3-pointer from the right corner late in the second half gave the Blue Jays (4-5) a 58-51 lead, their largest of the day. The hosts had a chance to make it 10 on their next possession, but another three was off the mark and Marywood (7-4) quickly turned it into a six-point swing as Jack DeGroot buried a contested triple from the left wing.
DeGroot's bucket had the Pacers brimming with confidence. They went on to score the next seven points to cap a 10-0 run and lead 61-58 with 2:02 to go.
Moffatt kept Elizabethtown right there, however. He answered Thomas Swartz's layup with a tying three at 1:49 and connected on a jumper with 56 seconds left to even the game, again, at 63.
The Blue Jays came up dry on a pair of go-ahead free throws in the final five seconds, but Marywood never got a shot off on its final possession, sending both teams to overtime for the first time this season.
Swartz, the Pacers' leading 3-point shooter, was held without one in regulation, but was true from 22 feet to open the extra session and E-town was playing catch up the rest of the way.
A Moffatt layup brought the Jays within 72-69, but Swartz delivered a back-breaking off-balance three from the right corner with 1:09 left.
Marywood outscored E-town 17-11 in a high-scoring overtime. That seemed unlikely after the teams struggled offensively throughout the first half.
There were only 26 combined points scored in the first 15 minutes. Elizabethtown, which missed 21 of its first 25 shots, finally got something going when
Michael Pastore hit a three and picked Jeremy Ringland's pocket, leading to a layup for an 18-13 lead with 4:34 left before halftime.
The Blue Jays led 23-21 at the break despite shooting just 23.5% (8-of-34). Moffatt and his teammates were aggressive in keeping possessions alive, though, as 15 of E-town's 38 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Elizabethtown committed a season-low eight turnovers while setting a season-high with 14 steals. Pastore accounted for a team-leading four to go along with 16 points. Greene and Moffatt had three apiece.
Greene and Moffatt were both 8-of-17 from the field en route to sharing game-high scoring honors. Greene knocked down five 3-pointers.
Brandon Berry provided 32 strong minutes off the bench with 10 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Swartz had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead the Pacers. Adam Boussatta collected 15 points, DeGroot had 11 and Donovan Catchings 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Elizabethtown hits the road again to face Wilson on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
