Pastore's career-high 26 points lead Blue Jays over King's

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Senior guard Michael Pastore scored a career-high 26 points and Bryce Greene supplied 19 as Elizabethtown shot 57.1% percent in a 93-63 trouncing of King's College Wednesday night at Thompson Gymnasium.

Outstanding ball movement on offense provided the Blue Jays plenty of quality looks, while a tenacious defensive effort at the other end of the floor made for a long night for the Monarchs.

The Pastore/Greene duo was a consistent source of offense for E-town (3-2) throughout the night. Pastore scored eight of the Jays' first 10 points and finished the first half with 16 on 6-of-8 shooting (3-of-4 3FG). Greene drained both of his 3-point attempts and ended the half with 10 points.

King's (1-5) went in front 9-8 on a Noah Tanner layup just over seven minutes into the first half, but E-town eventually shook off a slow start and took control with a 21-4 run over the next 4:50. Pastore's steal and score with 7:53 left in the period gave the Blue and Gray its biggest lead of the half, 29-13.

Elizabethtown took a 42-31 advantage to the locker room and though the Monarchs got back within nine to start the second on a Jake Pawliczak jumper in close, the Blue Jays quickly squashed any notions of a comeback.

Consecutive layups from Matt Thomas and another of Pastore's five 3-pointers pushed E-town's cushion to 49-35.

As frustration mounted for King's, the Blue Jays pounced. Junior Ethan DuBois registered four of his game-high six assists in the second half and freshman forward Zach Nannen found openings in the Monarchs' defense to score eight of his 10 points off the bench on 3-of-3 shooting.

Elizabethtown shot 56.7% in the first half (17-of-30), but was even better in the second at 57.6% (19-of-33). The Blue Jays were clicking in all phases of the game. They converted 17 Monarch turnovers into 25 points, held a 28-15 advantage in bench points and outscored King's 42-24 in the paint.

Pastore, whose previous career-high was 19 points, easily supplanted that with a stellar 10-of-13 night from the floor. The 10 field goals made were also a new career-high, while his five 3-pointers equaled a career-high.

Greene made it four straight games scoring in double figures after missing the Jays' season-opening win against Penn State Berks. He was good on 8-of-13 shots (3-of-4 3FG) for a season-high 19 and also pulled down six rebounds.

As a team, E-town shattered its former season-high for rebounds (34) with 47. Thomas grabbed a team-high nine, Nannen had eight and four additional players finished with at least four. Forty of E-town's rebounds came on the defensive glass.

Brandon Berry was 6-of-8 at the foul line and had 10 points. Thomas totaled eight points and DuBois seven.

King's got a double-double of 12 rebounds and 10 pounds from Joe Lonardi. Four of the Monarchs' five starters scored in double figures, led by Tanner's 11, but the visitors connected on just 31% of their field goal attempts (22-of-71) and were an unsightly 11-of-26 at the foul line.

Elizabethtown will make its first foray into Landmark Conference play on Saturday at Moravian. Tip-off from Bethlehem is set for 4 p.m.
