ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --
Ethan DuBois and
Brandon Berry set new career scoring highs and Elizabethtown nearly matched a pair of school single-game 3-point shooting records in an 85-74 non-conference victory over Lebanon Valley on Tuesday evening at Thompson Gymnasium.
Ethan DuBois went 5-of-7 from three and Berry was 4-of-6 as the Blue Jays made 17 treys on 33 attempts.
Elizabethtown's 17 3-pointers were one shy of the school record 18 against Rutgers-Camden on Jan. 10, 2011. The Blue Jays' also came within an attempt of matching the program benchmark of 34, set last Dec. 19 in a 94-90 overtime loss to Shenandoah.
Josh Christ came off the bench to connect on all three of his 3-point field goal attempts in scoring 11 points and
Michael Pastore made a pair. Seven different Blue Jays (2-2) made at least one three. The performance was a complete 180-degree turn from Saturday's loss at Shenandoah when E-town struggled to 4-of-21 shooting (19%) from outside.
Lebanon Valley's speedy and slashing guards were able to get to the tin with regularity, allowing the Dutchmen to double up the Blue Jays on points in the paint, 40-20. That wasn't enough to combat Elizabethtown's outside shooting prowess.
Pastore popped it a triple from the right corner on the Jays' first possession and the hosts were off and running.
Connor Moffatt, Christ and
Bryce Greene also hit treys in the opening five minutes as E-town surged to an 18-9 lead.
Despite having Pastore whistled for three fouls and
Matt Thomas two in the opening 2:19,
Britt Moore's club weathered the storm and maintained its lead throughout the half. Greene scored 10 of his 12 points before the break and Berry had eight of his career-high 17.
Freshman
Jake DuBois' first career 3-pointer put the Jays up 31-22 with 4:36 left in the first half, but LVC's Justin Baker responded with seven of his game-high 23 points to help the visitors trim E-town's lead to 40-36 by the end of the period.
Pastore darted down the middle of the lane and fought through a foul to complete a traditional 3-point play on Elizabethtown's first possession of the second half. Less than half a minute later, Greene found a wide open
Ethan DuBois in the right corner for a three and the Blue and Gray's first double-digit lead (46-36).
LVC managed to get within four on a Jeremy Deihm layup with 16:03 remaining, but the Blue Jays answered with another three from Berry on their very next trip down the floor.
Ethan DuBois delivered the dagger with a straight on three from a few feet beyond the line that gave Elizabethtown its largest lead of the night, 72-57, with 6:40 to go. DuBois shot 7-of-12 overall and made a career-high five treys for 19 points. The Manahawkin, New Jersey native, who has set new single-game scoring career-highs in two of his last three games, also led the way with five assists.
Berry finished with a career-high 18 points and four dimes. The senior was a perfect 6-of-6 at the foul line in addition to knocking down four threes.
In total, five Blue Jays scored in double figures. Greene had 12 points, while Christ and Pastore each had 11. Moffatt pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to go with seven points and four assists.
Baker did everything he could to keep Lebanon Valley in the game. He was 8-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-9 at the charity stripe before fouling out with 53 seconds left. Deihm added 12 points, Mason Green 11 and AJ Catanzaro 10 for the Dutchmen, who shot 54.2% (26-of-48) and got to the foul line 26 times (18-of-26).
As good as the Jays were from 3-point land (17-of-33, 51.5%), they were even better at the foul line, converting 14-of-18 tries (77.8%). Berry and Christ combined for 29 of Elizabethtown's 35 bench points. LVC only got 17 points from its reserves.
Elizabethtown gets an eight-day break from game action during the Thanksgiving holiday before Moore's alma mater, King's (Pa.), invades Thompson Gymnasium on Wednesday, Nov. 28, for a 7 p.m. tip.
