Cold shooting costs Blue Jays in loss at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. -- Elizabethtown never found a way to get its offense on track, Saturday, making just 4-of-21 3-point attempts and shooting 34% overall in an 80-57 loss at Shenandoah.

The Hornets led wire-to-wire, eventually pushing an 8-point halftime advantage to as many as 26 in the second half.

Bryce Greene had 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting to pace the Blue Jays (1-2), while Ethan DuBois added 10, but scoring points was a struggle all afternoon.

Elizabethtown only converted 8-of-29 attempts from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, including 1-of-10 shooting from deep. Shenandoah (2-1) wasn't a whole lot better, but started to click in the second.

Christopher Chaney was 4-of-5 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 at the line for 13 of his game-high 24 points. Jason Tate made all four of his shots, including two threes, for 10 second-half points, as the Hornets shot 64.3% (18-of-28) overall and 60% (6-of-10) from 3-point land.

Tate was one of five Shenandoah reserves to score, as the Hornets' bench outscored the Blue Jays' 25-14. Starters Jalyn Jarrett and Alan Dabney gave the home team four players in double figures as each finished with 11 points.

Senior foward Matt Thomas had nine points, six rebounds and four assists for the Blue and Gray. Connor Moffatt scored eight points and grabbed six boards.

Elizabethtown returns to Thompson Gymnasium for the first time since its season opener on Tuesday evening when it faces Lebanon Valley at 7 p.m.
