TOWSON, Md. -- Seniors
Mackenzie Garner and
Sarah Schneider have been selected as All-Landmark Conference honorees by the league's head coaches.
Garner received First Team recognition at middle hitter for the third consecutive season, while Schneider is a first-time selection on the Second Team at outside hitter.
Consistently among the Landmark's elite offensive players throughout her career, Garner established new career-highs of 391 kills and 818 attempts while playing in a career-high 35 matches. Garner's efficiency didn't take a hit with the increased reps, either, as she attacked at better than a .350 rate for a third straight season. The Huntingdon, Pennsylvania product's .352 hitting percentage was second in the conference only to Landmark Player of the Year Marybeth Weihbrecht (Juniata) and ranked 35th nationally in NCAA Division III.
Garner was third in the Landmark in total kills and fourth in kills per set (3.23). She became the seventh player in program history to record 1,000 career kills, reaching the milestone against Marietta on Sept. 21, and finished fifth on the Blue Jays' all-time kills list with 1,236. Garner also ranks fifth in program history with a .327 hitting percentage and is top five in kills per set (3.24).
Garner's versatility at the net has always been an asset for Elizabethtown, but she took a major leap forward defensively in 2018. Garner shattered previous career-highs with 105 total blocks, 29 solos and 76 assists. Prior to this season, her career-best was 69 total blocks, 17 solos and 52 assists. She averaged 0.87 blocks per set, the second-highest total of her career. She topped the Landmark in solo blocks, ranked second in blocks per set and third in total blocks.
Schneider also generated career-high numbers in multiple categories in her final season wearing blue and gray.
The senior from Downingtown, Pennsylvania posted new career-highs of 289 kills, 978 attempts, 43 service aces, 366 digs, 3.02 digs per set, 39 total blocks and 0.32 blocks per set.
Schneider ranked top 10 in the Landmark in attempts (seventh), aces (ninth) and digs per set (10th). She recorded double-digit kills 11 times, double-digit digs on 18 occasions and had eight kill-dig double-doubles. Schneider set a single-match career-high with 27 digs in a 3-1 victory over Moravian on Oct. 27 and also reached the 20-dig mark at Catholic on Oct. 10.
Schneider completed her career with 866 kills and 821 digs in 111 matches. She also played in a career-high 35 matches for the Blue Jays this season, as they compiled a 19-16 overall record.
