ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team grabbed two wins to close out the regular season. First against Rutgers-Newark the Blue Jays won, 3-0 and then defeated Stevenson, 3-1.
GAME ONE: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, RUTGERS-NEWARK 0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-21)
Lucy Stanek led the team with 17 kills (.429) and eight digs.
Angela Ouimet totaled 32 assists and nine digs while
Lucy Stern also grabbed nine digs.
Set one saw Elizabethtown jump to a 7-3 lead after an ace from Ouimet. The two teams traded points before the Blue Jays recorded three in a row to lead 15-10. Two straight kills from
Marah Glenn put the team up 17-11. Rutgers-Newark kept it close tallying three in a row before the Jays won the set 25-20 after two straight kills from Stanek.
The Scarlet Raiders started off with the lead in set two before Etown rattled off six straight to lead, 10-6. Kills from
Kate Barbon and
Bailey McFeaters gave Etown a 15-10 lead. Back-to-back kills from Stanek extended the Blue Jays lead to 18-12. Etown ended the set on a 4-1 run to win 25-20.
The teams started off set three trading points. Rutgers tied up the set at 7-7 before taking an 11-9 lead. After five in a row from Etown the Blue Jays were back in front at 16-14. The Scarlet Raiders again challenged Etown before the Jays put up five in a row with help from Barbon, McFeaters, and
Ida Fisher. A kill from Sam Laurenslager and
Claire Erdman ended the match 25-21.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, STEVENSON 1 (26-24, 16-25, 25-15, 25-21)
Stanek led the team with a double-double of 14 kills and 20 digs. Ouimet recorded a double-double of 35 assists and 13 digs. Barbon tied a career-high 13 kills. Ouimet also had five aces while Fisher had five blocks.
Set one was tight throughout with neither team gaining a substantial lead until Stevenson rattled off five straight to take a 14-10 lead. Following five a row from the Blue Jays, Etown took an 18-16 lead. The two teams traded points till the end of the set forcing extra points but Etown came out on top 26-24. Set two saw the Mustangs gain momentum winning the set, 25-16 after rattling off seven in a row to win the set.
To start set three, Etown jumped to a 6-2 lead following kills from McFeaters and Stanek. The Blue Jays then went on a 5-1 run doubling their lead, 14-7. A 6-1 run from the Mustangs brought Stevenson within four of Etown. The Blue Jays finished the set with five straight.
Set four saw Stevenson take a 7-4 lead and pull ahead to a 13-7 lead. Two Barbon kills and two Stanek aces brought Etown back within one of Stevenson at 13-12. Two Blue Jay kills sandwiched a
Leah Gormley ace to tie up the set 17-17. Etown held the momentum through the end of the set to win, 25-21.
Etown will travel to Catholic on Tuesday for the First Round the Landmark Conference Tournament.
