WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Elizabethtown College women's volleyball team's season ended, Tuesday in five-sets at Catholic in the Landmark Conference first round after a hard-fought comeback.
Lucy Stanek ended the season with her 16
th double-double the season totaling 21 kills and 15 digs.
Kate Barbon ended her career with a career-high 15 kills and seven digs.
Angela Ouimet tallied 42 assists while
Lucy Stern grabbed 24 digs.
Set scores were 18-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-23, 12-15
Etown struggled to get things going in the first starting off trailing 17-5. The gap was too large for the Blue Jays as they fell, 25-18. To start set two, the two teams traded points. Down by two-points at 18-16, Etown managed to tie up the set at 20-20 after three straight points. Kills from Ouimet, Barbon, and
Bailey McFeaters recorded kills again tying up the set 24-24 to force extra points. Catholic won the set, 26-24.
Etown flipped the script at the start of set three jumping out to an 11-2 lead. Kills from Barbon,
Ida Fisher, and Ouimet pulled the Jays out to 16-7. The Cardinals closed the gap to three points, but Etown grabbed the final four points to win, 25-18.
Set four was close to start with Catholic leading 10-7. Barbon smacked down a kill which left Etown trailing by two. Five points in a row by the Blue Jays gave Etown a 16-15 lead. Two kills in a row from Barbon extended the team's lead to 20-17. McFeaters and Stanek ended the set, 25-23 to force the fifth set.
In the fifth set, Catholic started off strong with a 3-0 lead. Two kills in a row from Etown gave them a 4-3 lead. After trading points the Cardinals tallied three in a row to lead, 9-7. Etown once again took the lead but it wasn't enough as Catholic took the set, 15-12.
The Blue Jays end their season 18-15 overall.
