Blue Jays split at Lycoming, Yohe named to all-tournament team

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Elizabethtown concluded play at the Lycoming Warrior Tip-Off Classic on Saturday. The Blue Jays suffered a 3-1 defeat to Rochester in their early match, but rallied to win three straight sets in a 3-1 victory over Penn State Behrend.

Freshman Shelly Yohe had a double-double (10 kills, 10 digs) in the loss to the YellowJackets and a career-high 20 digs against the Lions in being named to the all-tournament team.

Three players recorded double-digit kills, five had double-digit digs and freshman setter Rileigh Hudock totaled a career-high 43 assists, but Rochester prevailed, 3-1, in a closely contested match.

Alara Kocak led the YellowJackets (18-5) offensively with a match-high 20 kills, while Allie DeRubertis chipped in 17. Rochester also got 10 aces, nine of which came from the trio of Sara Apanavicius (3), Beth Ghyzel (3) and DeRubertis (3).

Elizabethtown (13-12) tied a season-high with 10 blocks after blocking 10 against Lycoming a day earlier. Mackenzie Garner had a solo and six assists to go with a team-high 14 kills. Hudock and Marisa Krinock each had three blocks.

While Garner hit a team-best .500 (14-2-24), Krinock followed closely with 13 kills and a .360 hitting percentage (13-4-25). Shelly Yohe had 10 kills and 10 digs.

Sarah Schneider and Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro each had 15 digs to lead the Jays.

ELIZABETHTOWN 3, PENN STATE BEHREND 1

The Blue Jays got a number of standout performances and overcame a first-set loss to defeat Penn State Behrend, 3-1.

Mackenzie Garner produced another .500 hitting percentage and led all players with 17 kills (17-3-28). Senior teammate Sarah Schneider had 15 kills and 18 digs, while Shelly Yohe collected a career-high 20 digs and Rileigh Hudock enjoyed her second straight match with 43 assists.

E-town (14-12) hit progressively better in each set. After attacking at an .075 rate (10-7-40) in the first set, the Jays improved to .205 (12-4-39) by the third and finished with a match-best .333 (16-5-33) in the fourth.

Hudock joined Schneider as Blue Jays with double-doubles in the victory. The freshman from Wilmington, Delaware added 14 digs to her 43 assists. Fellow rookie Elizabeth Zeiber had 14 digs and five kills.

It's back to Landmark Conference play for the Blue Jays after going 3-1 this weekend at Lycoming. Elizabethtown heads to Washington, D.C., to face Catholic on Wednesday evening at 7.
