Field hockey downed by nationally-ranked Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. -- In their final non-conference game of the regular season, the Elizabethtown College field hockey team couldn't knock third-ranked Rowan from the ranks of the unbeatens Wednesday night. The Prof scored three goals in the first half and went on to win 5-1 over the Blue Jays. Maggie Fees had the goal for E-town.

Elizabethtown (13-4) started off with the game's first penalty corner 1:23 into the game. Coming off the insert, the resulting shot from Lauren Scheib was on goal, but Rowan (17-0) goalie Morgan Novak made the save.

The Profs managed the opening goal on their first penalty corner a few minutes later. Krystyna Hovell scored her 11th of the season and first of two in the game to give Rowan the lead. Hovell made it 2-0 a little over 12 minutes later.

After a goal later in the first half, Rowan held a 3-0 lead at the break. Fees put a shot on Novak early in the second half, but the Profs' goalie made another save. Scheib also had a pair of chances that were kept out by Novak.

The Blue Jays broke up the shutout in the 59th minute. Olivia Beachley inserted a penalty corner and Fees placed a scoring chance on frame. Novak stopped her first shot, but the senior had a second crack at goal and put it in with a shot from the left side just inside the circle.

Margo Donlin made seven saves in the game for Elizabethtown. Novak had five for Rowan.

The Blue Jays will host Catholic on Saturday, October 27, at 3 p.m.
