Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball handles Goucher for third straight win

TOWSON, Md. -- After a three-game slide early in January, the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team has responded with a three-game win streak. The Blue Jays snapped a four-game road losing streak overall with a dominant 75-26 victory at Goucher on Saturday to climb two games above .500 in the conference standings.

Abby Beyer came out on fire to start the game for Elizabethtown (10-6, 4-2 Landmark). She shot 3-for-3 in the first 1:12 and had the first eight points of the game with a pair of treys and a layup at 8:48 off Emma Hoesman's assist.

Ashley Reynolds extended the run to 10-0 with a layup inside after she grabbed one of her game-high 12 rebounds off a missed three. Goucher (0-16, 0-6 Landmark) got on the board on Nicole Wolard's layup.

The Blue Jays were able to dominate inside, scoring 42 points down low in the game. Five of E-town's first nine makes from the field in the first quarter were at the basket. They led 20-8 after one quarter.

Beyer and Reynolds combined to score the first nine points of the second for Elizabethtown as the lead grew to over 20. Beyer and Reynolds both shot 6-for-8 in the game. Beyer was an efficient 5-for-7 from beyond the arc to tie her single-game career high.

The Jays defense continued its good play and held the Gophers scoreless through the first five minutes of the second before Nailah Jones hit a jumper to break the drought.

Rachel Liszkiewicz closed out the second for EC with the final four points. She hit a pair of free throws and then hit a layup with eight seconds left in the first half. E-town led 43-13 at the half.

With the lead growing, the starters were able to get some rest in the second half and allowed the bench to take over for much of the rest of the game. The bench outscored the starters 18-14, led by six second-half points by Liszkiewicz.

Marissa Emlet and Jill Freeman had four points apiece and Jenny Welch and Brittany Ritter both hit a field goal to account for the remaining points for the reserves.

The defense kept the same pace as well. Goucher only managed 13 points in the second half, like the first, recording just eight in the third and five in the fourth. Elizabethtown's field goal defense was also rock solid as Goucher shot less than 20 percent in both halves. E-town gave up a season-low ten baskets.

Wolard led the Gophers with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. She shot 7-for-12 from the field. Quichey Johnson added ten boards for Goucher.

Beyer ended with 18 points and Reynolds registered another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Liszkiewicz had 10 points off the bench to go with five rebounds. Veronica Christ, Hoesman, Emlet, and Welch each had at least six rebounds.

The conference win moved Elizabethtown up to third behind Landmark leaders Juniata and Scranton, both at 5-1. E-town hosts Juniata on Wednesday, January 24 at 7 p.m. at Thompson Gymnasium.
