Fast start carries Blue Jays over Bullets for first time since 2013

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Elizabethtown jumped out to a 19-6 lead halfway through Friday night's match at Gettysburg and never looked back in defeating the Bullets for the first time in four tries, 29-19.

The Blue Jays moved a match over .500 to 5-4 with the victory.

Philip Torresani edged Lenny Ogozalek, 2-1, on a riding time point at 125 pounds to spark E-town and Josh McLaughlin followed with his first collegiate pin at 133 against Louie Carusillo (4:22).

Gettysburg (5-3) pulled within 9-6 on a pin by Sean Thompson at 141, but Joe Ghione hung a 13-5 major decision on Colin Devlin at 149 and Chris Kummerer notched the Jays' second pin of the evening 54 seconds into his 157-pound bout against Quinn Merrigan to increase Elizabethtown's lead.

The Bullets closed the gap to four, 19-15, with a Colin Kowalski pin at 165 and Austin Roskos' decision at 174, but the visitors put it away with Quinn Ruble's forfeit victory at 184 and Rocco Hladney's team-leading sixth major decision of the season, 17-5 over Mike Iodice, at 197.

Friday's victory was E-town's first over Gettysburg --and first in Bream Gym-- since 2013.

Elizabethtown will have a week to prep for its annual trip to the Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational, which takes place next Friday and Saturday.
