Smith becomes wrestling's all-time wins leader, wins regional, qualifies for NCAAs along with Hockenberry

EWING, N.J. -- It was a day and weekend to remember for senior Ganon Smith, who became the Elizabethtown College wrestling team's all-time wins leader along with winning the 184 pound regional title and qualify for the NCAA Championships. Justice Hockenberry also qualified with a second-place finish at 165. The Blue Jays were seventh overall with 87 points in Region 3.

Smith won his first three bouts via fall, but the regional title was a more difficult go than the three prior matches. Both wrestlers earned escape points, one each, as it went 1-1 into sudden victory. With 38 seconds showing, Smith got the takedown to win it over Justin Mayes of NYU, giving him his 123rd match victory and regional title. His pin over Messiah's Austin Brass in the semifinal round earned him his NCAA berth.

Hockenberry won via a second consecutive major decision at 165, beating TCNJ's Jordan Ayyash 15-7 to capture his NCAA Tournament berth and advancing to the first-place match with Messiah's Keegan Demarest. The Falcon's 165-pounder would take the title as Hockenberry finished as the runner-up.

Will Davis placed fourth at 197, Sav Niewiadomy was fifth at 285, and Owen Heffner took eighth at 141.
