Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Susquehanna comes from 13 down to top Blue Jays in OT

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - No matter how hard the teaching moments get, Britt Moore and the Elizabethtown men's basketball team keep pushing forward together. That was evident again Saturday, when Susquehanna overcame a 13-point second half deficit to edge the Blue Jays 82-81 in overtime at Thompson Gymnasium.

It'd be easy for a relatively young Blue Jays team to hang their heads after suffering another one-point setback, their third of the season, and dropping to 0-3 in overtime games, but that is not the way Elizabethtown chooses to operate.

Despite a winless skid that's reached six games, E-town (3-11, 0-4 Landmark) continues to compete with the Landmark's top teams and is hopefully banking some good fortune that will go their way in the second half of the season.

Bryce Greene got his penetration game going early, scoring 10 points and Ethan DuBois also found some openings in the lane on his way to seven as the Blue Jays never trailed in the first half on their way to a 35-29 lead at the conclusion of 20 minutes.

Susquehanna (5-9, 2-2), which limped into Saturday's Landmark contest also having dropped five straight, found itself in danger of taking a sixth straight defeat midway through the second half.

Michael Pastore had five points and Matt Thomas four, including a circus tip-in, during a 13-2 run for the Blue and Gray that pushed its lead from two to 50-37 with under 13 minutes remaining.

River Hawks big men Ryan Traub and Jacob Walsh both connected from 3-point range as the visitors slowly whittled away at E-town's lead over the last half of the second half. Junior guard Seth Callahan, averaging 10.2 points per game, got hot with nine in the final four minutes and his 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 49 seconds left got a fortuitous bounce and went down for a 66-64 Susquehanna lead, its first of the game.

Greene beat River Hawks' guard Adam Dizbon to the hoop and tied the game at 69 with 10 seconds left. Tyler Hoagland's bit to win it for SU was left short, forcing an extra session.

Two Greene free throws and a Thomas basket repositioned Elizabethtown with a four point lead in the first 44 seconds, but the visitors took it back for good on a Walsh layup with 3:01 to go. The Blue Jays missed four of their last five shots and were just 12-of-22 (54.5%) at the foul line.

Greene tied a career-high with 27 points and set a new benchmark with eight rebounds for the Jays. Connor Moffatt put forth his ninth double-double of the season, and first in three games, with 13 points and 13 boards. Pastore had 12 points, Thomas 11 rebounds and eight points, and DuBois seven points as E-town topped the 80-point mark for the fourth time this season.

Brandon Berry led the Blue Jay reserves with eight points and Justin Sutton made a pair of baskets for four points.

Susquehanna's Walsh collected a team-high 16 points. Fellow starters Dizbon and Traub were both in double figures with 15 and 14, respectively. Callahan totaled 14 while playing the role of sixth-man.

Elizabethtown shot 45.6% for the game (31-of-68), slightly better than the River Hawks at 40% (28-of-70). The Blue Jays blocked seven shots and claimed a 46-45 edge on the boards. Each team committed 13 turnovers.

The Blue Jays' quest for their first Landmark win of the season might very well be fulfilled on the road. Elizabethtown plays its next three away from Thompson Gymnasium, beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m., at Drew.
