Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey blanked by Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College field hockey lost its first Landmark Conference regular season game since 2015 on Saturday, 1-0, at Scranton. Meredith Campbell scored the only goal of the game in the first half for the Royals.

The game went scoreless through the first ten minutes until Campbell began to pick up her play around the ten-minute mark. She put two shots on goal that Margo Donlin stopped, but a second-chance effort off a third shot found the cage for the Royals' and conference's leading scorer. Campbell put Scranton (10-0, 2-0 Landmark) ahead 1-0 with her 17th of the year, tapping in her own rebound.

Emma Christman tested Jenna Cyr in the cage for Scranton, but Cyr stopped the senior's shot to keep her team ahead at 22:00.

Elizabethtown (4-6, 1-1 Landmark) had a couple penalty corners in the final five minutes of the first half. Emily Garvin put in a shot on goal, but Cyr made another save and the Royals led 1-0 at the half.

Both defenses were on their game to start the second half. Neither team recorded a shot until Scranton's Katherine McVeagh had a chance stopped by Donlin over 15 minutes into the half.

With timing ticking away, the Blue Jays forced the issue and put Scranton back in their own end. Addie Stang, Olivia Beachley, and Christman had shots saved by Cyr as the pressure mounted.

E-town went for the game-tying goal off a corner. Beachley inserted and Stang was able to beat Cyr, but Jessica Kaplowitz was on the line to keep the ball out and prevent the Jays from scoring. It was the final chance of the game for Elizabethtown as the Royals hung on for the win.

Donlin finished with five saves for the Jays. Cyr had six for the Royals.

Elizabethtown remains on the road, this time in non-conference play, at Wilkes on Wednesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
