EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. -- In the final non-conference road contest of the season for the Elizabethtown College field hockey team, the Blue Jays scored early and defended well to earn a 1-0 shutout win at Wilkes to snap a quick two-goal skid.

Emily Garvin has come close multiple times this season to scoring her first career goal, and Wednesday night, it finally happened for the Bel Air, Md. native.

With Elizabethtown (5-6) pressing in the opening ten minutes, Garvin capitalized on Charity Good's cross. Good played the ball in front of the goal from the left side and Garvin got her stick to the ball to tip it in and get the Jays a 1-0 lead 8:56 into the first half.

Good had a couple chances at goal in the final minute of the half, but Dallas Kendra stopped both her attempts to make it 2-0 and kept Wilkes (3-8) at a 1-0 deficit at the break.

The Colonels only had three shots in the second half, but they were all on goal. Hannah Mack, who subbed on at halftime for starter Margo Donlin, denied each of those three scoring opportunities to secure the combined shutout. Donlin made two saves in the first half, while Mack finished with three.

Kendra had three saves in goal for Wilkes. E-town outshot the Colonels 8-6 and had six penalty corners to five for Wilkes.

Elizabethtown visits No. 18 Catholic on Saturday, October 7 at 5:30 p.m.
