Field hockey doubled up by #18 Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Catholic exacted a bit of revenge on the Elizabethtown College field hockey team Saturday evening in the nation's capital after the Blue Jays blanked the Cardinals in 2016. Catholic scored twice in each half to double up E-town, 4-2. Olivia Beachley and Emma Christman were the goal scorers for the Jays.

Grace Olson put Catholic (9-2, 3-0 Landmark) up 1-0 eight and a half minutes into the game after Molly Crowley fed a ball in front along the endline that Olson knocked into the cage.

At 15:40, Kelly Cancelmo made it 2-0 in favor of the Cardinals to capitalize on a penalty corner.

Elizabethtown cut the deficit in half within three minutes of halftime as Beachley redirected in a pass in from Megan Eppley for her fourth of the season.

Less than two minutes later, the Blue Jays were awarded a penalty stroke. With 45 seconds left in the first half, Christman's attempt was good, her sixth of the season, to tie the game at 2-2.

Christman nearly had her second of the game in the second half, but Cancelmo kept it out of the goal.

Minutes later, Katie Anderson put Catholic back ahead with her sixth of the year. Then, exactly a minute later, Rachel Day added her seventh to double the lead for a second time in the game as she made it 4-2 with just over ten minutes left.

Charity Good had what would be E-town's final scoring chance of the game, but Sophia Hamilton made the save for the Cardinals, her only save of the game.

Margo Donlin had eight saves for Elizabethtown.

The field hockey team finishes up its four-game road trip at Moravian on Wednesday, October 11 at 4:30 p.m.
