Field hockey storms past Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Elizabethtown jumped out in front of Moravian early in Wednesday's Landmark Conference matchup and never looked back as the Blue Jays stormed by the Greyhounds, 5-1, to even their league record. Emma Christman recorded a hat trick for the Jays.

It was all Elizabethtown (6-7, 2-2 Landmark) from the start. Madison Kubik had the Jays' first scoring chance less than two minutes in. Her shot was saved, but a penalty corner ensued.

Olivia Beachley played it in to Megan Eppley and the senior midfielder ripped a shot from the top of the circle that found the right side of the cage to make it 1-0.

Less than a minute later, Christman scored her first of three in the game, her seventh of the season, to bump the score to 2-0 and force Moravian (2-12, 1-3 Landmark) into an early timeout.

Charity Good registered her second goal of the season at 12:39 as E-town's pressure remained. Then, a little over four minutes later, Christman made it 4-0 with her second of the game and eighth of the season. Emily Garvin provided the assist, crossing in a pass that Christman tapped in.

Margo Donlin made three saves in the first half and kept the Greyhounds out of the cage as the Blue Jays led 4-0. Hannah Mack came in and played the second half.

Moravian goalie Ashley Kunsman made several stops in the first ten minutes of the second half to hold the deficit to 4-0.

Christman notched her hat trick late in the game after Kubik played it across from a short distance and the senior scored at the left post. That made it 5-1. Olivia Schlofer scored on a penalty stroke midway through the second half.

Mack made one save in the second half. Kunsman finished with eight in the game. Elizabethtown outshot Moravian 17-8, with 13 of their 17 shots on goal.

The Blue Jays host Goucher on Saturday, October 14 at 1 p.m.
