YORK, Pa. -- Wednesday's game at York College (Pa.) didn't go as planned for the Elizabethtown College field hockey team, but Abby Spessard did record her first career goal in the Blue Jays' 8-2 loss to the Spartans. Emma Christman added a goal for E-town.

York (Pa.) (5-1) went up 1-0 in the first three minutes on Paige Taylor's third of the season. The Spartans applied the offensive pressure right away and pinned Elizabethtown (3-4) back.

While the Blue Jays were unable to get off any shots in the first half, YCP took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

York scored early on in the second half that made it 4-0, but Elizabethtown's offense came alive right after. Madison Kubik forced Spartans' goalie Eve Hauptle into a save. A minute later, on a Jays' penalty corner, Megan Eppley passed over to Christman, who fired a shot on goal that found the back of the cage to break up the shutout and make it 4-1.

YCP took back control from there, scoring the next four goals to take a commanding seven-goal lead.

Spessard, a second-half substitute, pounced on a ball right in front of the goal that came off Addie Stang. The sophomore pushed it across the line to register her first career goal.

York outshot E-town 29-4 and had 16 penalty corners to three for E-town. Margo Donlin had nine saves in the game. Hannah Mack came on to replace Donlin and played the final 29:37. Mack made four saves during her time on the field.

Elizabethtown will host Drew to open up Landmark Conference at Wolf Field on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m.
