Women's volleyball overpowers Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. -- Mackenzie Garner accounted for nearly half of Elizabethtown's 40 kills as the Blue Jays make quick work of Cairn with a 3-0 road sweep Thursday evening.

Garner tied a season-high with 19 kills and E-town (4-3) attacked at a season-best .338 rate with 40 kills on just 74 attempts.

The host Highlanders (2-4) were able to get an early lead in all three sets, but attacking errors plagued them throughout the match. Cairn hit -.031 and dropped all three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-10.

Elle Shatto had six kills and seven digs for the Blue Jays, while junior setter Gabby Anders produced 33 assists, three kills, three digs and a pair of aces.

Anders was one of four E-town players to collect three kills on the evening along with Morgan Reiss, Sarah Schneider and Emily Sexton.

Freshman libero Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro paced the team in digs for the sixth time in seven matches this season with 11. Garner had a pair of solo blocks and Reiss three block assists in the win.

Cairn's Haley Sheehan had eight of her team's 16 kills and Liz White finished with 15 assists.

The Blue Jays now turn their focus to Saturday's home opener against Penn State Berks at noon.
