LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of ninth-ranked Franklin & Marshall College Friday night at Tylus Field. The Diplomats scored once in the first half before adding a pair of second-half goals en route to the win in the season openers for both teams.

F&M (1-0), an Elite Eight participant last season, was on the offensive from the get-go. Goalie Margo Donlin was forced into making an early save less than a minute into the non-conference affair.

The Diplomats were able to break through at 4:09 of the first half when Erin Coverdale scored from the left side to make it 1-0.

Megan Eppley had Elizabethtown's (0-1) first chance of the game off a penalty corner taken by Emma Christman, but the senior's shot was wide of the mark. Eppley led the Jays with two shots in the game.

After Franklin & Marshall made their 1-0 lead stand through halftime, Sydney Cole added to it at 42:00 in the second. Just shy of four minutes later, FMC's Annie Horsley connected on a penalty stroke and the hosts had a commanding 3-0 advantage.

E-town had one final chance to break up the shutout in the waning moments of the game. Olivia Beachley's corner found the stick of Charity Good, but her shot was blocked.

The Blue Jays will face Stockton on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. in their home opener.
