Baker roasts Kean with overtime winner

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Madelyn Baker scored the first and last goal of Thursday evening's 14-13 non-conference overtime win over visiting Kean at Wolf Field. Baker completed her hat trick 28 seconds into overtime to lift the Blue Jays over the Cougars.

Allison McLamb rang a shot off the crossbar, the first shot of the game 37 seconds into the contest. The next shot for Elizabethtown (11-3), however, did not miss. Baker cut toward goal and took a feed from Addie Stang and scored her 19th of the season and first of three in the game.

After Meghan Tillger tied the game at 1-1 at 21:32 for Kean (10-6), Julia Ferrante and Stang used Katie Thompson assists to give the Jays a 3-1 lead with nearly half of the first 30 minutes played.

The Cougars got even after Brittany Ballack and Taylor Hynes tallied the next two goals of the game.

Stang found Katie Thompson for her first of the game that sent E-town into halftime with a one-goal lead.

The game opened up in the second half. After just seven combined goals between the two squads, 19 were scored in the final 30 minutes.

The Blue Jays' lead grew to three as McLamb and Baker recorded the first two scores of the second half. McLamb's goal came just 31 seconds into the second half. Dana Robidoux came up with the opening draw control that ended in McLamb's 22nd of the season.

Elizabethtown went into an offensive lull after Baker's second of the game. Kean scored seven of the next eight goals and had a 10-7 lead over EC with 14:15 to go after Danni LeSaint's 27th of the year.

The tide turned when Stang's third of the game got E-town back within two less than a minute after LeSaint's goal. LeSaint scored her second in a row for the Cougars to return the three-goal lead to Kean, but the Jays went on a 5-0 run to grab a 13-11 lead. Robidoux and Katie Thompson scored at even strength, Thompson tallied a man up, and Stang recorded a pair a man down.

Over the final 5:30, Brittany Ballack and Morgan Graham helped the Cougars even the score at 13-13. Kean grabbed the draw control after Graham's game-tying goal with 2:31 left and called timeout.

The Cougars were poised to take the final shot. Ballack had a free position attempt with 43 seconds left go high. She had a second free position go right of the goal with only 1.4 seconds to go. The clock ran out and E-town's defensive stand held up.

In the overtime period, Stang gave Elizabethtown possession first and it only took one shot for the Jays to win the game in sudden victory. Stang's fourth assist of the game set up Baker, who ran in on goal and fired a shot that found the twine.

Stang led E-town with a second straight nine-point game (five goals, four assists). Baker and Katie Thompson each had hat tricks. McLamb and Becky Graessle both had three caused turnovers while Olivia Beachley grabbed four ground balls. Abby Kopytko made four saves in the win.

Elizabethtown's playoff seeding will be determined when the Blue Jays travel to face Catholic on Saturday, April 29, at 1 p.m.
