Stang collects 200th point as Blue Jays clinch playoff spot with win over Moravian

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Senior attack Addie Stang set a new career-high with seven goals and matched a career-high with nine points to become the seventh 200-point scorer in Elizabethtown women's lacrosse history in the Blue Jays' 18-4 win over Moravian Wednesday afternoon.

Stang netted four goals, including her 40th of the season, as the Landmark Conference's top scoring offense built an 11-3 halftime lead, paving the way for the Blue Jays' return to the postseason for the first time since 2013, when they won the MAC Commonwealth Conference title.

Junior Katie Thompson also came up with four first-half goals, while Dana Robidoux, Madelyn Baker and Allison McLamb each scored once.

Moravian (6-6, 0-4 Landmark) led by a goal in the early going and were tied 3-3 with 12:56 to go on the second free-position goal of the day by the league goal scoring leader Jillian Picciuto.

The Blue Jays turned up the heat from there, ending the half on an 8-0 run. Elizabethtown continued to send attackers at the Greyhound defense in waves in the second half and extended their run to 11-0 on Stang's sixth goal of the game at 16:44.

Head coach Danielle Seling's team is averaging 15.3 goals per game and with 199 goals for the season, the Blue Jays (10-3, 4-1) are poised to hit the 200-goal mark for the first time since 2013.

This Blue Jay team is a well balanced crew, however. As good as the offense has been, the defense built a fortress around freshman goalie Jennifer Beihoff, who was making her first career start.

Beihoff, along with defenders Olivia Beachley, Becky Graessle and Kirsten Quilty and the midfielders worked to keep Moravian off the scoreboard for more than 28 minutes spanning large parts of both periods.

Graessle matched a career-high by forcing four turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Katie Thompson caused three turnovers, snagged a team-high four ground balls and won three draw controls.

Beihoff set the tone in goal, stopping Picciuto on Moravian's first shot of the afternoon and making eight saves in 47:15. Caity Howell made two more saves over the final 12:45.

Stang's goal with 10:30 left in regulation --her career single-game high seventh-- went in the books as career point No. 200. The Dover, Delaware, native is the first Blue Jay to eclipse 200 career points since Becky Porter in 2013. Stang also assisted on a pair of goals and took a game-high 12 shots.

McLamb (one goal, two assists), Robidoux (two goals, one assist) and Julia Ferrante (one goal, one assist) joined Stang and Katie Thompson with multi-point games for the Blue and Gray.

Elizabethtown will have just over a week to get ready for their home finale, a non-conference matchup with Kean, on Thursday, April 27, at 5 p.m.
