Wave of second-half goals leads Scranton over Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- In a potential postseason preview, Elizabethtown and Scranton took turns controlling portions of Thursday's women's lacrosse matchup at Wolf Field.

The Royals fired in 11 second-half goals to earn a 15-11 victory and send the Blue Jays to their first Landmark Conference loss.

Katie Thompson and Allison McLamb scored a pair of goals during a seven-goal outburst over the final 8:41 of the first half that catapulted E-town (9-3, 3-1 Landmark) from down 4-1 to up 8-4 at intermission.

The second half would belong to the Royals, however.

Five different players scored during a 5-0 run in the first 8:20 of the half that allowed Scranton to reclaim the lead. Dana Robidoux knotted the game at nine with 17:53 remaining, but the Royals (8-3, 3-1) scored the next four goals and never looked back.

Morgan Windisch was one of two Royals to register a hat trick along with Kaitlyn Murphy. Windisch (three goals, two assists) and Katie Rogers (two goals, three assists) led all players with five points.

Addie Stang had a pair of goals and assists for Elizabethtown and Katie Thompson generated her fifth hat trick of the season. Both Stang and Thompson caused a pair of turnovers, as did Halley Donlin, to lead the Blue and Gray.

Scranton won 8 of 15 draw controls in the second half and held a commanding 20-9 lead in shots (33-26 overall).

E-town goalie Abby Kopytko and Royals' netminder Erin Putnam each stopped nine shots.

The Blue Jays play their second of three in a row at home next Wednesday when Moravian visits for a 4 p.m. start.
