Women's lacrosse holds off Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team ended a four-game losing streak to Susquehanna on Saturday. The Blue Jays got out in front early and held on to defeat the River Hawks and start Landmark Conference play with a win, 15-12.

An early card on Susquehanna (4-4, 0-1 Landmark) left the River Hawks short-handed and Elizabethtown (5-1, 1-0 Landmark) was able to take advantage.

Carly Thompson's 19th goal of the season came just over a minute into the game a man up as E-town took the early 1-0 lead. Allison McLamb grabbed the following draw control and the Jays had possession right back and which ended in McLamb scoring her 11th of the year on a free position.

Madelyn Baker made it 3-0 then Addie Stang scored her first of five in the game at 20:21 coming out of an Elizabethtown timeout. The Blue Jays cleared successfully and Dana Robidoux found Stang for her 18th of the season.

Baker took a pass from Carly Thompson exactly a minute after Stang's first of the afternoon and recorded her second of the contest. Baker capped off her hat trick with her second consecutive marker and E-town led 6-0 at that point.

The River Hawks got two back after Caroline Rabiecki scored with 3:20 remaining in the first half. EC led 7-2 at the half.

Susquehanna managed to outscore Elizabethtown 10-8 in the second half, but the Jays' strong first half was enough and the defense held up over the final 30 minutes.

Abby Kopytko, the Landmark's reigning Defensive Athlete of the Week, stopped an early free position attempt to keep E-town's lead at 7-2.

The Hawks were as close as 12-10 with 10:48 left in regulation, but Elizabethtown wouldn't allow them any closer than two goals the rest of the game. Robidoux connected with Stang once again that gave the Jays a little breathing room at 13-10. Carly Thompson then added a pair, goals 20 and 21, to push the lead back up to five, 15-10.

Kopytko finished with six saves and didn't allow a goal over the last two minutes to keep Elizabethtown's lead safe in hand.

The women's lacrosse team will host Alvernia on Monday, March 27 at 4 p.m. This is a make-up game from March 15 that was postponed due to the snow.
