Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Martin dominant, women's basketball rolls to win over Goucher

TOWSON, Md. -- When Emily Martin saw Goucher at home a few Saturdays ago, the Gophers limited the senior to her only single-digit game of the season. In the second meeting between the teams Saturday went differently as Martin gathered her 15th double-double of the season and the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team rolled to a 63-49 at Goucher. Three players were in double figures for the Blue Jays.

Goucher (4-18, 0-12 Landmark) had tied things up three different times in the first quarter, but the Gophers couldn't get a lead on Elizabethtown (17-5, 7-5 Landmark). Shalom Omo-Osagie's layup with 3:52 left in the first brought the contest to its third deadlock, but from there, the Jays would never relinquish the lead.

Following Omo-Osagie's bucket, Julia Craig dropped in a three on the ensuing possession after Lydia Lawson found the junior for the trey. Lawson extended the lead to five after Martin blocked a layup and corralled the rebound. She found Lawson right away and the freshman took the ball coast-to-coast for the two-point finish.

The Gophers cut the deficit to just one by the end of the first. E-town responded A pair of three-point plays, the conventional and unconventional, shot the Blue Jays in front by seven. Rachel Liszkiewicz drove to the hoop, got fouled, made the basket, and sank the free throw. On the next possession, Lawson found Abby Beyer for a shot from beyond the arc and E-town led 19-12 with 8:55 left in the second quarter.

Goucher got back within three, but Beyer sank a second three in the quarter to prevent the momentum swing the Gophers sought. Elizabethtown then took a 28-20 lead into halftime.

After a slow start to the game, Martin awoke in the second half. The two-time Landmark Athlete of the Week was too much to handle down low, securing ten second-half rebounds and scoring 14 points.

Beyer and Mikayla Ruth combined for 13 points as the Blue Jays outscored Goucher 35-29 in the second half to take a 63-49 win back home.

Martin's 20 points and 15 rebounds were a game-high. She also added five blocks to her line. Beyer hit three treys in the game and finished with 13 points, while Ruth also hit double digits with 10. Beyer and Lawson each had four steals.

Briana Bull led Goucher with 19 points and Jaida Scarborough had 10.

The women's basketball team will travel to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, February 15 for a 7 p.m. tip-off with Catholic.
