Drew surges past Blue Jays

MADISON, N.J. -- Elizabethtown bolted out to an early 11-point lead Wednesday night at Drew, but the Rangers hit 16 threes to turn back the Blue Jays, 82-64.

Seniors Matt Lapkowicz and Josh Eden led E-town's charge in the opening minutes.

Lapkowicz hit all three of his 3-point attempts for nine points before being forced to the bench with his second personal foul at the 11:52 mark. Eden added seven points.

Less than 20 seconds after Lapkowicz departed for the remainder of the first half, classmate Peter Harding hit from deep to put the Jays (4-15, 1-8 Landmark) ahead 24-13 with 11:37 to go.

Drew started to heat up shortly thereafter.

Darius Reiter connected on a trio of threes for nine of his game-high 20 points and the Rangers (11-9, 5-4) outscored Elizabethtown 18-4 over the next 7:21.

The Blue Jays settled down to trail by just five at the break (42-37), but Drew went back to work with a 26-6 run over the first eight minutes of the second that put the game away.

Eden went 8 of 16 from the field to score a team-high 19 points. The Slatington native also grabbed five rebounds.

Elizabethtown received 16 points from Lapkowicz (4 of 7 3FG) and Ethan DuBois had 10 points and three assists.

Though the offense was there in spurts for the Blue and Gray, Drew found buckets too easy to come by. The Rangers shot nearly 50 percent (31 of 64) overall and were even better from 3-point land making 53.3 percent (16 of 30).

Reiter was 6 of 10 on threes, as was Riley Collins, who totaled 18 points and six dimes. Yonathan Napoleon had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

The Blue Jays will try to stop a three-game slide when they return home Saturday to face Moravian at 4 p.m.
