Four in double figures as Blue Jays roll past Hood

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Abby Beyer, Ashley Reynolds, Veronica Christ, and Emma Powell all reached double figures for the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team Friday evening in a non-conference blow out win over Hood, 93-52. It was E-town's first 90-point-plus outburst since December 10, 2010 when they put up 94 at home against Wilkes and the team's 61 rebounds were the most since December 6, 1995 when they had 72 against Widener. Beyer led all scorers with 24 in the game.

Beyer came out of the gate on fire, hitting five of her career-high six treys in the first quarter and scoring 17 of Elizabethtown's (6-3) 23 first-quarter points. The junior sharpshooter was feeling it, going 6-for-8 in the opening stanza and 5-for-7 from deep. Christ was a perfect 3-for-3 as the two players combined to outscore Hood (3-6) 23-9 in the first. The Jays held the Blazers to just 4-for-18 from the floor.

Beyer knocked down the first basket of the second quarter for Elizabethtown to bring her first-half total to 19 points on just seven makes. The Blue Jays produced a balanced scoring offense in the second ten-minute period. Six different players contributed a bucket and eight total scored in the quarter, led by five by Rachel Liszkiewicz. Lydia Lawson dished out four of her career-high eight assists and Reynolds grabbed six of her game-high 14 boards in the quarter. E-town led 45-26 at the half.

Lawson and Powell powered the Jays through the third quarter to help E-town increase its lead to 24. Powell had a team-high seven points and six rebounds in the third while Lawson connected on a pair of threes, two of Elizabethtown's season-high nine. The lead grew to as many as 26 in the third after Lawson's three. Mikayla Ruth found the sophomore, who knocked down the long-range shot.

Reynolds secured her third double-double of the season in the fourth quarter with a strong finish to the game. The freshman forward posted seven points on an efficient 3-for-3 from the floor and connected on her lone foul shot of the quarter. Powell registered the first double-double of her career in the fourth as well. She finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass in a season-high 22 minutes.

Jenny Welch and Brittany Ritter came in off the bench to contribute to the team's victory. Marissa Emlet found Welch for two inside with 3:12 to go. Ritter sank a jumper just outside the paint with less than a minute to go on Welch's assist. Jill Freeman had a pair of rebounds and Lauryn Mitchell also grabbed a board in the fourth quarter for the Jays.

Elizabethtown racked up the foul shots during the course of the game and finished 20-for-26 at the charity stripe (76.9%). Hood was just 2-for-7 from the foul line. E-town also got it done on the glass, finishing with a 61-35 advantage in total rebounds. EC had 27 offensive rebounds and 27 second chance points.

For Hood, Mia Savoy had a team-high 12 points, while Maggie Tien and Lauren Keeney each added 10 apiece.

Beyer led the way with 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Christ had 14, Powell recorded 13, and Reynolds ended with 11. Lawson had team-highs in assists (8) and steals (5).

Elizabethtown hosts Stockton for the first-ever meeting between the two sides tomorrow back at Thompson Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
