Moffatt records eighth double-double in loss to Nazareth

MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- Sophomore forward Connor Moffatt scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds on his way to all-tournament team honors at the Gelston/Paskert Holiday Tournament as Elizabethtown fell to Nazareth, 69-53, in the consolation game Friday afternoon.

The double-double was Moffatt's eighth of the season, putting him one off Cabrini's Tyheim Monroe's nine, which leads NCAA Division III.

Elizabethtown led twice in the first seven minutes, first on Ethan DuBois' game-opening basket 45 seconds in and again, 8-6, on a Moffatt layup at the 13:48 mark.

A Matt Thomas layup with 12:46 left in the half knotted the score at 10, but the Blue Jays managed just one field goal over the next 9:51 in falling behind by double digits. Nazareth's (5-3) lead reached 17 points before E-town rattled off the final six points of the first half to trail 33-22 at the break.

The Flyers shot 52.4% and got 12 second-half points from Jake Burgio and Tyler Stenglein to maintain control over the Blue Jays.

Moffatt's 24 points were his second most in a game this season and just four off his career-high of 28. The Mountville native bounced back with an 8-of-12 shooting effort and was 7-of-8 at the charity stripe after being held to a season-low four points in Thursday's loss to Montclair State.

Bryce Greene had nine points in 28 minutes before fouling out and the Jays struggled to find the basket all afternoon going 18-of-50 (36.0%). While Moffatt led the way against the Flyers, eight other E-town players combined for just 29 points.

Burgio topped Nazareth with 18 points, while Stenglein produced a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Stephen Gable collected nine points and nine boards.

Elizabethtown will try to snap a three-game losing streak when it returns to Landmark Conference play at Scranton on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at 2 p.m.
