Greene leads Blue Jays past Penn State Harrisburg

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Penn State Harrisburg had no answer for Bryce Greene on Sunday. Elizabethtown's leading scorer erupted for a career-high 27 points and the Blue Jays outlasted the Lions, 62-61, at Thompson Gymnasium for their second straight comeback victory.

The Lions held the lead for more than 25 minutes, but the Blue Jays' defense tightened in crunch time. A Trent Thomas layup put Penn State Harrisburg up 44-42 with 13:58 remaining, but the visitors proceeded to miss 12 of their next 13 shots over an 11-minute stretch, allowing E-town to build a 53-47 lead.

Greene answered a Keenan Wise three with his fifth and final trey of the afternoon to restore the Blue Jays' (3-5) six-point advantage with 2:21 to go.

Sophomore forward Connor Moffatt scored four points late in the half to secure his sixth double-double of the season and Michael Pastore hit a pair of clutch free throws to keep the Blue and Gray in front by two possessions.

Anthony Bennett Jr. drilled a 3-pointer from four steps beyond the half court line as time expired to pull Penn State Harrisburg (4-5) within one at the finish.

Greene, a sophomore guard from Westampton, N.J., was remarkably consistent with 15 points before the break and another 12 in the final 20 minutes to surpass his previous career-high of 23 points, which he set back in the season opener at Stevenson on Nov. 15. The Landmark Conference's leader in 3-point field goal efficiency, who also ranked 20th in all of NCAA Division III at .523 coming into Sunday's game, connected on 5 of 8 tries from deep and was 10 of 16 shooting overall in 37 minutes against the Lions.

Moffatt, another standout second-year player, will continue to climb the national ranks in double-doubles and rebounding average after matching the Lions' Gbolahan Alliyu with a game-high 15 boards and chipping in 12 points. The Hempfield High School grad tops the conference in both categories and was fifth in the country in double-doubles and 15th in rebounds per game prior to facing Penn State Harrisburg.

Elizabethtown also got six points, six assists and four steals from Ethan DuBois. Pastore had seven points, five rebounds and three assists.

Harrisburg led by as many as nine points in the first half, but went cold in the second, missing 21 of its 28 shots and making just 2 of 15 3-point attempts. The Lions received a team-high 21 points from Bennett Jr., while Thomas added 13 and Alliyu 11.

While the Lions' shooting percentage dropped by more than 10% from the first half to the second, E-town's increased by almost 13% to 46.2% (12 of 26). The Blue Jays shot 39.3% overall (22 of 56) and found a way to prevail despite attempting five less shots than Harrisburg and being outrebounded, 44-38.

The Blue Jays go for their first three-game winning streak since the 2014-15 season when they conclude their pre-holiday schedule with a home game against Shenandoah Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
