Blue Jays place four on All-Landmark teams

TOWSON, Md. -- Four Elizabethtown College men's soccer players received postseason accolades, Thursday, as the Landmark Conference announced its 2017 all-conference teams and award winners.

Two-time Landmark Offensive Player of the Year Gilbert Waso was named First Team for the third straight season. The junior forward was joined on the first team by senior midfielder Scott Hess and senior defender Sam Feehrer. Senior midfielder Aaron Rathsam earned a spot on the Second Team.

Waso battled through a lingering ailment to net double-digit goals for the second year in a row. Waso led the Landmark with six game-winning goals. The junior's 11 goals for the season ranked second at the conclusion of the conference tournament. Waso also took the second most shots (65) and registered the third most points (25) in the Landmark. In the Blue Jays' first game of the season, Waso compiled three goals and an assist for his first career hat trick and a career-high seven points.

Hess started every game for the second consecutive season and set new career-highs in goals (three), points (eight), shots (27) and shots on goal (10) to pick up his first all-conference honor. The midfielder from Hanover, Pa., scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory at Penn State Berks on Oct. 11, his first game-winner since his freshman season. Hess also converted a penalty kick at Drew for Elizabethtown's lone goal in the Landmark semifinals, Nov. 4.

Feehrer, the 2016 Landmark Defensive Player of the Year, took a lesser role offensively to solidify Elizabethtown's backline and his leadership proved vital in the Jays' 10-7-2 record. Feehrer, along with his fellow defenders and goalkeepers, held opposing teams to 10.9 shots per game and recorded seven shutouts, tied for second most in the league. The Reading, Pa., native, who was named all-conference for a third straight season, managed two assists and 15 shots, with the helpers coming in back-to-back games against Moravian and Catholic on Oct. 4 and 7.

Rathsam was forced to miss a chunk of his senior season due to injury, but when on the field, the Lancaster, Pa., product was his steady self as coach Skip Roderick's midfield general. Rathsam was selected to the Second Team for a second straight season and this year's all-conference honor marks the third of his career. In 12 games (11 starts), Rathsam produced a goal and an assist while attempting 11 shots. He set up Waso's game-winning goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation against Susquehanna on Homecoming, Oct. 21.
