Slow start costs Blue Jays at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. -- Elizabethtown suffered through a pair of first-half scoring droughts and its late comeback bid ran out of time in an 82-72 non-conference loss at Lebanon Valley Tuesday night.

Bryce Greene topped the 20-point mark for the second time in three games leading all Blue Jays with 21 and Connor Moffatt recorded his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Elizabethtown trailed by 19 with just over seven minutes left, but got it to a two possession game, 78-72, on a Moffatt 3-pointer in the final minute.

Moffatt forced Sam Light into a turnover on LVC's ensuing offensive trip, but Greene missed on a 3-point attempt with 27 seconds to go and the Dutchmen made four straight free throws to seal it.

Greene scored five of E-town's first 10 points as the guests took a two point lead at 15:15 of the first half, but the Dutchmen (4-0) responded with a 17-3 run behind five points apiece from Ricky Bugg and Sam Light to take control.

Elizabethtown could muster only a Josh Christ trey during a 6-minute, 23-second stretch that resulted in LVC turning a two-point deficit into a double-digit lead.

The Blue Jays also had a tough finish to the half going scoreless over the final 4:23 after turning the ball over four times and missing their last four shots. LVC led 42-24 at the break.

Though Britt Moore's club outscored the Dutchmen 48-40 in the second half, they were unable to eat away at their lead for much of the period.

When the Jays finally trimmed LVC's lead to single digits, 72-63, on a Michael Pastore three, there was only 2:46 to play. Elizabethtown fought to the buzzer, but fell to 0-3 for the second time in the last three seasons.

Greene put up a team-high 17 shots, making eight. The New Jersey-born sophomore went 5 of 10 from long range. Moffatt scored 10 of his 17 in the second half.

Pastore had seven points and a game-high five assists, but it was a tough go offensively for the junior and backcourt mate Ethan DuBois (six points), as they were a combined 5 of 20 from the floor.

Elizabethtown shot 43.5% overall (30 of 69), but only earned five trips to the foul line. The Dutchmen got there 22 times and converted 17. All-American Andy Orr accounted for nearly a third of those attempts, going 5 of 7 on his way to 15 points.

Lebanon Valley's Light netted a game-high 22 points on 9 of 12 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds. Ricky Bugg (16 points) and Chris Anderson (12) gave LVC four scorers in double figures.

The Blue Jays matched LVC with 36 points in the paint and led second chance points 22-13. They'll get another shot for win No. 1 on the road next Tuesday at Haverford. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
