Blue Jays shock Haverford with second-half comeback

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Bryce Greene drained five threes in the second half and Connor Moffatt recorded his third double-double of the season as Elizabethtown overcame a 23-point deficit in the final 14 minutes to stun Haverford, 75-72, Tuesday night.

Haverford led 59-36 with 13:27 to go before Greene and Moffatt started dropping triples from everywhere with a little help from their friends.

The sophomore duo hit three treys apiece with Moffatt scoring 13 points and Matt Thomas adding eight to fuel a 34-6 run over nearly 11 minutes. An Ethan DuBois layup with 2:44 remaining put E-town in front 70-65.

Jonathan Lang answered with five straight points to tie the game for the Fords and Sam Stogdon countered a Thomas hoop to tie it again, 72-72, in the final minute.

E-town turned to Moffatt once more and the Mountville native delivered, scoring off a feed from DuBois with 33 seconds left to put the Blue and Gray in front for good.

The final half minute wasn't without its share of drama, however. Moffatt forced a Fords turnover and Lang traveled, but the Blue Jays squandered two chances to increase their lead by missing the front end of one-and-ones.

Greene pulled down a potential go-ahead 3-pointer from Joe Hartman and made 1-of-2 at the line to make it a 75-72 game. Haverford would not get a final attempt, as Britt Moore won for the first time as head coach of the Blue Jays.

Haverford committed 14 of its 20 turnovers in the second half, leading to 14 points for the Jays. E-town shot 45% (27-of-60) overall, made all eight of its 3-pointers after halftime and was a perfect 13-of-13 at the foul line until the final minute.

Moffatt made 8-of-17 shots, including 3-of-7 from long distance, on his way to a career-high 23 points. The second-year forward also grabbed 11 rebounds and had three steals.

Greene scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half, finishing right on his season average. DuBois collected eight points and a game-high four steals, Thomas also had eight points, and Michael Pastore provided six points and six assists.

Lang did most of Haverford's damage, dropping 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting (5-of-8 3FG). Kahlil Garnes and Joe Scibelli also scored in double figures for the hosts with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The Blue Jays, who open Landmark Conference play at home Saturday at 2 p.m. against Moravian, trailed 43-26 at the break, but outscored Haverford 49-29 in the second half.
