Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Three goal scorers help field hockey prevail over Wesley

DOVER, Del. -- Emma Christman recorded her first two goals of the season Wednesday night for the Elizabethtown College field hockey team. Christman also added an assist as the Blue Jays won their first game of the season with a 4-2 victory at Wesley.

Christman was active for Elizabethtown (1-2), leading the team in shots with seven for the game, five of which were on goal. Her first shot, also the first of the game, led to E-town's first goal. Christman's chance was stopped by Wesley (0-2) goalie Sidney Knott, but the rebound would not be as Charity Good scored to put the Jays ahead 1-0 just 3:52 into the game.

Wesley came back at the Blue Jays over the next six minutes. Margo Donlin made two saves to keep E-town ahead, despite the Wolverines' piling up penalty corners. The EC defense also blocked two shots.

E-town would control the final 17 minutes of the first half, not allowing another Wesley shot. However, they could not find a second goal, either. Knott made three more saves on Good, Addie Stang, and Megan Eppley to send the game into halftime still 1-0.

The Jays peppered new goalie Bridget Wood to begin the second half with five shots on goal in the first five minutes. Wood managed to stop all five.

Christman changed that after intercepting a clear attempt, dribbling in on goal and beating Wood for her first of the season to put E-town up 2-0. Minutes later, Allie Patterson made it 3-0 with her first of the year after collecting and scoring on her own rebound.

Christman added her second of the game less than four minutes after Patterson scored. The junior played a penalty corner out to Leaf, who returned the ball back to Christman at the near post for the one-time goal.

Wesley narrowed the lead down to 4-2 with less than ten minutes to play, but would only register one shot in the final three minutes as Hannah Mack preserved the lead for Elizabethtown's first win of the year.

The field hockey team will host nationally-ranked Ursinus on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. at Wolf Field.
