Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey falls to Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team fell for the second time in three days by the same score line, 2-1, this time at Muhlenberg Saturday afternoon. Charity Good recorded the Blue Jays' lone goal.

Muhlenberg (2-0) had three penalty corners in the first six minutes, but could not score off of any of those three. Hannah Mack made a save on Stephi Rydgren 2:15 into the first half to keep it scoreless.

Nicole Leaf had E-town's first shot attempt on goal at 11:22, but Emma Rosenthal stopped the shot.

The Mules scored twice in a span of three minutes on consecutive shots. Taylor Smith put home a loose ball of a deflection at the cage. Rachel Strow made it 2-0 with a quick shot to beat Mack.

Elizabethtown's best sequence of the first half came in the waning minutes. The play began with Emma Christman's penalty corner delivery. Megan Eppley's shot was saved by Rosenthal before Christman's rebound chance at goal was stopped at the line by Claudia Theriault. That play resulted in a penalty stroke, but it was missed wide and the Jays went into the half down 2-0.

Muhlenberg kept up the pressure on EC, but were unable to find a third goal and E-town remained in the game. Though, the two-goal deficit was going to be tough to overcome as the Jays struggled offensively.

Christman forced Rosenthal into a save with less than ten minutes to go, but the rebound fell to Good, who put the ball into the cage for her first goal of the season, which cut things to 2-1.

It was a little too late as Muhlenberg held on for the win to send Elizabethtown to 0-2.

E-town will travel to Wesley on Wed. September 7 at 7 p.m.
