McLamb lifts Blue Jays to win over York (Pa.)

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Allison McLamb picked a great job to net her first goal of the season for the Elizabethtown College field hockey team. Locked in a tight battle with York (Pa.) Wednesday at Wolf Field, a goal in each half for the Blue Jays was enough to come away with a 2-1 win, the second straight for E-town.

It was a quick start for York (Pa.) (5-2) after Ali Posey fired off a shot less than a minute into the game. Hannah Mack made the save for Elizabethtown.

The Spartans had a few more chances as E-town had yet to register a shot on goal 15 minutes into the non-conference game. Mack made another stop on Posey after York earned its first penalty corner of the game. Autumn Mallory got a shot through toward goal, but Halley Donlin was on the line to prevent the Spartans from taking the lead with a defensive save.

YCP had the Jays pinned in their own half and looked likely to score, but Mack did not allow a shot to get in during her 35 minutes of action.

E-town gave their sophomore goalie a 1-0 lead with just 15 seconds to go in the opening half of play. Charity Good collected a loose ball near the York goal and wristed a shot at the cage. Despite numerous bodies being in the way, the ball found its way into the goal for her third of the season and EC led 1-0.

York had one final chance as the teams played out a penalty corner. Posey was recipient of the insert from Alexa Taylor out top and sent a shot toward Mack, who made the save and ended the half. She had four saves before Margo Donlin took her place for the second half.

York seized momentum in the early moments of the second half with multiple penalty corners, but Donlin only needed to make one save off of them to keep it 1-0 in favor of the Blue Jays.

Lindsay Nye managed to tie the game at 1-1 with a little under 20 minutes in regulation, unassisted. It was the ninth of the season for York's leading scorer.

Megan Eppley helped keep the score line intact with a defensive save two minutes later, stopping Posey's goal-bound shot on the line off another Spartan penalty corner.

Elizabethtown utilized a penalty corner of its own with 9:34 to go. Nicole Leaf inserted out to Emma Christman at the top of the shooting circle. She took a touch and sent the ball in McLamb's path and she escorted the ball into the cage past an outstretched defender for her first of the season to give E-town a 2-1 lead.

York pressure in the latter stages with two more penalty corners, but the only shot to come of the two was blocked by Addie Stang and the Spartans could not generate another scoring chance as the Jays kept the ball in the York half of the field over the final minutes to hang on for a 2-1 win.

McLamb led the E-town attack with four shots, three on goal. Mack and Donlin combined for five saves in the win.

The field hockey team will gear up for Saturday's Landmark Conference opener. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Sept. 24.
