Field hockey piles on offense in rout of Drew

MADISON, N.J. -- With a tough early schedule now in the rearview mirror, the Elizabethtown College field hockey team had picked up a head of steam heading into Saturday's Landmark Conference opener at Drew with three victories in four games. The Blue Jays piled on the offense with a season-high five goals in a 5-0 shutout win over the Rangers. Five different players scored for E-town.

Elizabethtown (4-3, 1-0 Landmark) was all over the Rangers from the opening whistle. The Jays kept Drew (2-5, 0-1 Landmark) goalie Ryann Callaghan occupied for the majority of the first half.

Olivia Beachley and Kelsey Detweiler had shots stopped by Callaghan, but Madison Kubik was able to beat the Rangers' goaltender with her second of the season on an assist by Beachley 12:15 into the first half.

E-town pummeled the Drew cage and Callaghan did her best to repel the Blue Jays' attempts. Detweiler had two scoring chances saved in a 13-second span, and Nicole Leaf's rebound opportunity was also kept out. Megan Eppley and Allison McLamb were unable to get one past Callaghan as well and the score remained 1-0 after 25 minutes of play.

The Jays found pay dirt at 27:33 when Allie Patterson notched her second of the season. McLamb fed a pass across the middle and Patterson finished it off for a 2-0 lead.

Drew's only shot attempt of the first half was blocked and at the half, Hannah Mack came on to replace Margo Donlin. Mack would face a shot in the second half from Madi Sheetz, but it was the only one and the sophomore made the save.

Addie Stang recorded the first goal of her career and made it 3-0 in favor of Elizabethtown, scoring off a rebound directly in front of goal.

13 minutes later, Eppley registered goal No. 2 of the year on McLamb's second assist of the game.

Halley Donlin had the Jays' fifth and final goal with less than four minutes to go. Like Stang, it was the first of her career. Emma Christman inserted an E-town penalty corner, Leaf redirected it to the far post and Donlin knocked in home for the goal.

Elizabethtown overwhelmed Drew, outshooting the Rangers by a 20-2 margin and was plus-eight in penalty corners (13-5).

The field hockey team remains on the road and will face Eastern on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Davids, Pa.
