Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Blue Jays fall short in second half against Susquehanna

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.Dana Robidoux registered six points and Elizabethtown women's lacrosse led Susquehanna for much of the opening 15 minutes, before a 10-goal run sent the Crusaders on their way to an 18-10 victory at Wolf Field Wednesday.

Madelyn Baker and Robidoux buried shots behind Crusader goalie Alyssa Rothman in the first 1:25 for a 2-0 Elizabethtown lead.

Susquehanna tied the game shortly thereafter on goals 37 seconds apart by Annie McElaney and Becky McHugh, but the Blue Jays responded with three of the next four for a 5-3 lead at the 20:09 mark.

Mary Nell Donahue scored her 15th goal of the season, followed by Robdioux's 40th and 41st. Robidoux's 40-goal season is the 21st in program history. The senior from Kennett Square, Pa., produced her fourth straight hat trick and seventh this season before adding a fourth goal late in the second half.

Unfortunately for the Blue Jays (6-8, 2-3 Landmark), Susquehanna would crank up its offense  –Kelcie Ehler in particular– following Robidoux's goal with just over 20 minutes left.

Ehler scored all five of her goals and McElaney chipped in three during a stretch of 10 unanswered for the Crusaders (6-7, 3-1 Landmark). SU led 7-5 at the half and extended its advantage to 13-5 on Ehler's fifth of the day with 21:52 remaining.

Carly Thompson scored a pair of second half goals for the Blue and Gray, while Julia Ferrante, Robidoux and Stang each had one.

Seven of SU's 18 goals came on free position attempts. The Crusaders finished 7-of-15 on their attempts.

Ehler and McElaney combined for 24 of Susquehanna's 42 shots. E-town goalie Abby Kopytko turned aside 12 shots, with her counterpart, Rothman, stopping 10 of the Jays' 26 attempts.

Katie Thompson won a game-high seven draws and Stang led all players with three caused turnovers.

A win Wednesday would have helped the Blue Jays' playoff hopes immensly, but Elizabethtown will now need to win its Landmark finale at Scranton Saturday and get additional help.

A win and a Drew loss to Goucher on April 30, would clinch a spot for E-town, and the Jays can tie Scranton in the standings with a victory Saturday and a Royals loss to Catholic April 30. A loss Saturday would eliminate the Jays from playoff contention.

Game time Saturday at Scranton is 1 p.m.
