Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Drew outlasts women's lacrosse

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – A seven-goal run by visiting Drew that covered a 14-minute stretch in the late first and early second halves lifted the Rangers to an 18-12 victory over the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team on Senior Day at Wolf Field Saturday.

Attack Morgan Mason was heavily involved Drew's offensive gameplan, scoring seven times and assisting on a pair of goals for a game-high nine points.

Mason had two of her goals, as did Juliana Strazulo, during the Rangers' (5-9, 2-2 Landmark) 7-0, game-changing run. Theresa Shafron's goal with three minutes left in the first half started the run and tied the game at seven. By the time it had come to a close, Drew led 13-7 with just under 22 minutes to play.

The Blue Jays received four goals and an assist from Carly Thompson, along with four goals from Dana Robidoux. Katie Thompson added two goals and two helpers.

Robidoux struck for a pair of free-position goals in the opening five minutes as the Jays (6-7, 2-2 Landmark) took an early 2-1 lead. Neither team could get a grasp on the lead for much of the half, as it swapped hands six times before Drew took control for good on Strazulo's goal with 2:43 left in the half.

Freshman goalie Abby Kopytko did everything she could to keep the Blue Jays in it, stopping a career-high 15 shots. Kopytko topped the 14-save standard she set 10 days ago against Neumann and reached double-digit saves for the fourth time this season.

E-town tried to make a late run to get back into contention. Carly Thompson scored twice and set up Robidoux's fourth of the game to pull the Jays within 17-12 with 3:32 remaining. But, Strazulo countered for the Rangers with 1:58 left to seal the win.

Megan DeMichele and Mary Nell Donahue also had goals for the Blue and Gray. Katie Thompson caused a pair of turnovers, won a team-high five draw controls and picked up a team-high six ground balls.  Robidoux added four ground balls and Becky Graessle three.

Drew outshot the Jays 46-30, and Elizabethtown struggled with the giveaways, committing 25, its second highest total this season.

Aiding Mason's big game for the Rangers were Strazulo and Sage Johnson, who each posted four-goal performances. Anna Fiorini, Maddie Spiess and Shafron rounded out the scorers for Drew, and Miranda Czymek made six saves.

Prior to the game, the Blue Jays recognized their four seniors: Robidoux, Donahue, Meghan Donohue and Kara Weller, along with junior early graduates Miriah Dwyer and Laura Travis.

Elizabethtown hosts Susquehanna Wednesday in a near must-win game if it hopes to reach the postseason. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
