Fackler scores 100th run, Jays sweep Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Kyle Fackler became the 16th player in Elizabethtown College baseball history to score 100 runs in a career as the Blue Jays swept their weekend series at Juniata Sunday. E-town won game one, 6-1, and took the back half of the doubleheader, 10-4.

The Blue Jays have had a player reach the 100 career runs milestone in each of the last three seasons. Fackler joined Kyle Gable, who scored his 100th in 2014, and Tyler Weary, who accomplished the feat last spring, in keeping the streak alive.

While the pair of wins were crucial to the Blue Jays' postseason chase –they now sit alone in third in the Landmark at 7-5– Sunday's games were about more than just the result on the field.

Elizabethtown and Juniata, led by former Blue Jay standout Adam Sheibley '09, teamed up to raise money for the Vs. Cancer Foundation. Vs. Cancer founder Chase Jones, a cancer survivor and former baseball player at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, started the organization in 2012 to provide student-athletes with a platform to make a difference and give back to childhood cancer. Both teams are donating half of their fundraising efforts to national childhood cancer research, with the other half ticketed to the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital.

Game 1
Elizabethtown 6, Juniata 1

Anthony Lippy gave up an early run on two hits, but recovered to stime the Eagles (7-21, 3-9 Landmark) over the next five innings in winning his third game of the season.

Lippy turned in his second quality start of the season, scattering six hits and one run over six innings.

The Elizabethtown offense did all of its work from the fourth inning on. Nick Lorenz, who homered for the first time this season in Friday's series opener, doubled to center in the top of the fourth to score catcher Frank Ragozzino and tie the game at one.

Fackler followed with an RBI single that scored the Blue Jay shortstop and gave E-town (15-12, 7-5) a lead it would never reqlinquish.

Dylan Manning knocked home Brian Portillo in the fifth and younger brother Derek Manning doubled home Colby Smith in the sixth as the Jays' lead grew to 4-1.

Fackler scored his 100th run in the seventh on Richy Masciarelli's double. Masciarelli would come around to score on an error and Sean Jones pitched a scoreless seventh to lock down the win for the visitors.

Fackler, Derek Manning and Portillo all had two hits in the win. The Blue Jays finished with four doubles and Fackler stole his fourth base of the year.

Isaac Kline and Zach Tobash were 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Juniata. Eagles' starting pitcher Caleb Pepperday allowed six hits and handed out five free passes over five innings, which the Blue Jays turned into three runs.

Game 2
Elizabethtown 10, Juniata 4

The Blue Jays flipped the script in game two, going off for seven runs in the first two innings.

Juniata fell apart defensively committing five errors. In the three-game series, the Eagles were charged with 12 errors, including another five-error game Friday.

Smith drove in two runs on a sac fly in the second and a groundout in the sixth, while Derek Manning and Portillo recorded their second two-hit games of the day, both going 2-for-3.

Senior Nick Gulla relieved starter Dylan Manning in the first inning and tossed 3.2 innings of four-hit ball to pick up the win. Gulla allowed one run and struck out one. Braden Stinar pitched a scoreless fifth and Jay Singer finished up allowing a hit and an unearned run over the final two frames.

Walks were again an issue for Juniata, as starter Isaac Kline yielded six of them in five innings. His defense didn't help matters when the ball was put in play. Of the seven runs the Jays scored against Kline, only three were earned.

Tobash knocked in a game-high three runs for the Eagles.

Derek Manning and Masciarelli scored two runs apiece for the Jays in victory.
