Women's lacrosse drops Landmark opener to Catholic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -  The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team dropped its Landmark Conference opener to visiting Catholic Thursday afternoon at Wolf Field. The Cardinals scored 14 first-half goals and got out in front early as E-town fell to 3-5 on the season. Addie Stang led the Blue Jays in scoring.

Catholic (3-5, 1-0 Landmark) went right at Elizabethtown (3-5, 0-1 Landmark) off the opening draw control. Nicolette Crisalli finished off the sequence with the game's first goal, her first of four. The Cardinals scored three in the first five minutes of the game.

Stang scored her 17th goal 18 seconds after the Cardinals had a 3-0 lead. Up a player 53 seconds later, Stang recorded her 18th and second within a minute. Mary Nell Donahue found the junior for her second of three.

The Cardinals controlled the middle portion of the first half, scoring nine unanswered goals to build a 12-2 advantage. Clair Schmitzer hit the post with 3:36 to go in the first half, and Allison McLamb scooped up the ground and went the length of the field before scoring her eighth of the season to make it 12-3.

Catholic tacked on two more goals in the final 2:32 to lead 14-3 at the break.

The Jays were able to limit CUA to six tallies in the second half, but could only produce another three of their own. Carly Thompson got her 15th of the year off a feed from Stang. Stang capped off her hat trick with 19:38 remaining and McLamb got her second of the contest with C. Thompson registering the assist.

Abby Kopytko made seven saves in the loss.

E-town travels to Merchant Marine on Saturday, April 2 for a 1 p.m. start in King's Point, N.Y.
