Blue Jays blank Dickinson 3-0

CARLISLE, Pa. – Six Elizabethtown College pitchers combined to shut out Dickinson, 3-0, Tuesday afternoon at MacPhail Field, helping the Blue Jays even their record at 8-8 on the year.

Anthony Lippy, Mike Garvey, Braden Stinar, Collin McGovern, Josh Kwak and Zack Tomasko each took a turn trying to keep the Red Devils off balance.

E-town struck early, getting a leadoff triple from Kyle Fackler and scoring the game's first run in the top of the first on a Richy Masciarelli RBI groundout.

Lippy scattered five hits over four innings, struck out one and didn't walk a batter to earn his first win of 2016. Garvey and Stinar followed with scoreless frames in the fifth and sixth.

The Blue Jays (8-8) got a pair of hits and two Dickinson miscues to tack on two runs in the seventh for a 3-0 lead. Fackler delivered an RBI double and Colby Smith, coming off a grand slam in game two against Scranton last Saturday, drove in Fackler with a single.

Dickinson (12-6) brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh and eighth innings, but came up empty against McGovern and Kwak.

Tomasko pitched a perfect ninth for his second save.

Fackler and Smith led the Blue and Gray with two hits apiece, while Masciarelli and Nick Lorenz accounted for the remaining two of E-town's six hits. Dickinson wound up with 10 hits, but could lend no run support to starting pitcher Ben Woodard. Woodard turned in a quality start with two runs (one earned) allowed and eight strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

Left fielder Phil Werner totaled a game-high three hits, going 3-for-4 with a double. Robbie Thompson and Jon Chudacoff were both 2-for-4 for the home team.

The Blue Jays will turn around tomorrow afternoon to finish their season series at Scranton by making up last Sunday's single nine-inning contest. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
