Kopytko sets new career high in saves, Jays fall to Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. — Abby Kopytko ended Saturday's non-conference game at Stockton with a new career-high 12 saves, but the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team fell to the Ospreys by a 12-6 final.

Julia Ferrante grabbed the opening draw control for Elizabethtown (3-4) and the Blue Jays would end up with the game's first scoring chance. Allison McLamb lined up for a free position attempt, but Stockton (6-0) goalie Mary Stornes made the save.

The Jays trailed 2-0 before Carly Thompson netted her 14th of the season on a free position to get E-town on the board. It remained 2-1 for nearly ten minutes as Koptyko made five of her game-high 12 saves in that period.

Stockton jumped ahead 6-1 with 5:30 remaining in the first half, but two quick goals by Dana Robidoux on free positions cut the deficit in half to 6-3 and forced the Ospreys into calling a timeout.

After a 7-3 lead at the half, Stockton came out and got the first goal of the second half to push the advantage back to five.

Katie Thompson caused a turnover and on the other end, Addie Stang recorded goal No. 16 for the season to once again halve the lead for the Blue Jays.

Robidoux completed her hat trick on an assist from K. Thompson at 13:35, but E-town couldn't overcome Stockton's lead. Madelyn Baker picked up her fifth of the season with 3:02 remaining in the 12-6 loss.

Elizabethtown will host Catholic on Thursday, March 24 at Wolf Field at 4 p.m.
