Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Stang records 100th point, Blue Jays wear down Washington & Jefferson in win

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — A slow start to Saturday's non-conference contest with Washington & Jefferson eventually turned into a blowout win for the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team. The Presidents kept things close in the first half, but the Blue Jays began pulling away after halftime to earn the 19-9 victory. Addie Stang recorded her 100th career point in the first half.

Carly Thompson scored her first of three goals for Elizabethtown (2-3) just over two minutes into the game unassisted to put the Jays up 1-0 early on.

Washington & Jefferson (1-3) didn't take long to get that goal back. The President pressured E-town's defense with Caroline Kallos' shot hitting the cross bar and Ashley Bulger's free position shot saved by goalie Abby Kopytko. Kallos got W&J on the board nearly three minutes after Thompson's goal to tie the game 1-1.

In a span of less than a minute, Mary Nell Donahue scored, Stang collected the ensuing draw control, got fouled, then took the restart in on goal and scored her first of the game at 24:27, which was her 100th career point. EC led 3-1 at that time.

Kallos was the only offensive weapon working for the Presidents as she scored four of the first five goals for Wash. & Jeff. Her fourth of the first half brought the visitors within one at 6-5, but E-town would outscore them 4-1 over the final 15 minutes of the half to take a 10-6 lead into halftime.

Along with C. Thompson, Donahue, and Stang, Katie Thompson and Madelyn Baker also scored first-half goals for E-town. For Baker, it was the first of her career. Stang tallied 21 seconds before the horn sounded in the first half.

Megan DeMichele had two shots saved in the waning seconds of the half, but Michaela Mulokey was able to stop both attempts to keep W&J within four going into the break.

Elizabethtown controlled much of the second half as the inability to substitute started to take its toll on the Presidents. Draw controls were 10-3 in favor of E-town, as were ground balls (13-6), free position shots (4-0), and shots (18-4).

Dana Robidoux got in on the scoring as the senior mid produced a second-half hat trick. Allison McLamb had a pair of goals. W&J got the final two scores of the game that brought the score to 19-9 by game's end.

Seven different players contributed at least two goals for the Blue Jays, including Donahue's team-high four. C. Thompson, Robidoux, and Stang all had hat tricks, while Baker, K. Thompson, and McLamb had a pair each.

Kopytko got her second win, making three saves in just under 50 minutes of action. Ashley Gibson played the final 10:03 and made one save.

E-town travels to face Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, March 15 at 6 p.m.
