Game Recap: Baseball |

Manning receives plenty of run support in baseball's win over Immaculata

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Dylan Manning won his first game of the 2016 season for the Elizabethtown College baseball team as the Blue Jays pounded Immaculata in the rubber match, 17-7. Manning pitched six innings for the win and received ample run support by way of 15 runs to get the victory. Six different players had multi-hit efforts for E-town.

After a scoreless first inning, Elizabethtown (3-2) scored runs over the next five innings to stake Manning to an 11-run lead by the time he was relieved in the seventh by Nick Gulla. Manning struck out four batters and gave up four runs.

Multi-run innings have come for the Blue Jays early on in the season and Tuesday afternoon was no different. The Jays posted six runs in the second and six innings. They added another pair in the eighth.

Immaculata (2-4) was up 1-0 after the first, but E-town took off in the bottom of the second, and did all the damage with two outs. Frank Ragozzino, Ryan Shirk, and Kyle Fackler all singled after a strikeout and ground out started the inning for EC. Fackler's single brought home Ragozzino from second. After Richy Masciarelli reached on an error, Colby Smith drove in two runs with the bases loaded that gave Elizabethtown a 3-1 lead. Derek Manning followed that up with a single and then Aaron Rahn smacked a two-out, two-RBI double to extend the game score to 6-1.

Shirk singled in a run in the third, De. Manning provided an RBI ground out in the fourth, and Fackler's single in the fifth allowed Brennan Snyder to score as E-town led 9-4 after the fifth.

Dy. Manning retired the side in order in the sixth, the final three batters he would face. Before his day was officially over, Manning had 15 runs on his side. De. Manning scored on a sac fly by Snyder to start the six-run sixth for the Jays. Ragozzino doubled home two more a batter later. Shirk sent a double into the outfield to score Ragozzino as once again Elizabethtown scored on three straight hits. James Kantner pinch hit for Smith, who went 5-for-10 in the three-game set with Immaculata. Kantner picked up an RBI with a pinch-hit double. De. Manning, who had led off the inning with a single, got his second base knock of the frame to bring home Masciarelli.

De. Manning got his game-high fourth RBI in the eighth inning after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The baseball team will be off until Friday when they face Eastern at 9:30 a.m. and Northwestern (Minn.) at 1 p.m.
