Game Recap: Baseball |

Blue Jays take one, lose one against Immaculata

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — The Elizabethtown College baseball split for the second straight day, this time with Immaculata. E-town got our front early and went on to a 7-1 win before falling 13-12 in the second game of the day against the Mighty Macs. The Blue Jays are 2-2 after two days of the spring break trip.

Game 1: Elizabethtown 7, Immaculata 1

The top of the order for Elizabethtown did most of the damage as Kyle Fackler, Richy Masciarelli, Colby Smith, and Derek Manning combined for seven of the Jays' 11 hits in the game. Smith had a team-high three in three at-bats.

Fackler was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first for E-town and advanced to third base on Masciarelli's double. The two crossed home safely when Smith, the next up, singled for the first of his three hits. Manning made it three straight hits for the Blue Jays with a single to get Smith into scoring position.

Aaron Rahn became the second player of the inning to reach base after being hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases for Elizabethtown. Ryan Schamp delivered a one-out triple to clear the bases and put the Jays up 5-0 right away.

Sean Jones pitched six scoreless innings to get the win. He struck out nine batters in his six frames of work before Daniel Gittis and Zack Tomasko closed out the seventh inning. Immaculata (2-3) got a run in the seventh to prevent the shut out.

Smith added an RBI single in the second and Fackler drove home a run in the fifth. Manning also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.

Game 2: Immaculata 13, Elizabethtown 12 (F/8)

The Mighty Macs flipped the script on E-town in game two, getting out to a 5-0 lead in their bottom half of the first. Elizabethtown answered with four runs in the second, and by the the end of the third inning, the game was tied 6-6.

Brennan Snyder plated Rahn with an RBI double to get the Blue Jays on the scoreboard in the second. Ryan Shirk single home Schamp and Snyder to cut the deficit to 5-3. Fackler got his second RBI of the day on a groundout to make it 5-4.

Masciarelli gave Elizabethtown its first lead of the game with an RBI single in the fourth, but it didn't last long as Immaculata tied it back up in the fifth.

E-town looked to have the game in hand with a five-run sixth inning, getting RBIs from Masciarelli, Smith (2), De. Manning, and Rahn, and led 12-7 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Immaculata rallied to tie the game and force extra innings with five runs of its own and got a game-winning homer in the bottom of the eighth to split with Elizabethtown on the day.

Masciarelli, De. Manning, and Rahn each had two hits apiece for E-town in game two.

The rubber match between the two schools is scheduled for tomorrow at 2 p.m.
